Wednesday, May 8, 2024 1:52AM Carlos Maldonado-Pizarro received his sentence Tuesday while the parents of 14-year-old Christian Alonso-Andrade addressed him. MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) — Carlos Maldonado-Pizarro was in a Merced courtroom on Tuesday morning as he listened to the heartbroken parents of 14-year-old Christian Alonso-Andrade. The young victim’s mother spoke to her son’s killer with tears on her face. “But I do have a question: What did my son do to you so that you would kill him,”” asked Juana Andrade through an interpreter. Alonso-Andrade was shot to death back in March 2021. Investigators identified Maldonado-Pizzaro as a suspect in the case and issued a warrant for his arrest. Then, almost a year later, Border Patrol agents arrested Maldonado-Pizarro after he entered the U.S. illegally. The District Attorney’s Office charged the defendant with first-degree murder, where he was looking at spending 75 years to life in prison. But he took a plea deal for manslaughter with gang enhancements and was sentenced to 31 years. “Merced County isn’t going to tolerate the gang violence brought to our community,” said Natalia Enero, a Deputy District Attorney with

(KFSN) — A 14-year-old girl has been arrested by Los Angeles Police Department for the murder of 20-year-old Kendra Reana McIntyre. The video above is from an earlier story and will be updated. Officers say on March 21 at 4:20 a.m., McIntyre was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a part of South LA known for sex work. Investigators say McIntyre was a victim of human trafficking. (KFSN) — The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has announced it will be charging a suspected drug dealer with murder after he sold pills that contained the deadly drug fentanyl. 25-year-old Antwane Dupree Lee is accused of selling some of the pills to 34-year-old Vernisha Latriece Green. Officials say Green was found dead on April 17, the day after the sale. Lee faces a 2nd-degree murder charge and also drug charges. If convicted, he faces 15 years to life in state prison. Lee was already in custody at the Fresno County Jail for a violation of his probation. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, May 8. As of May 7, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s, the total number of fentanyl-related deaths in the county is 26. Last year, there were 94 deaths, a 10 percent decrease year over year. NEW YORK — An 18-year-old battling cancer got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be on Broadway with the help of Disney and Make-A-Wish. Gabby Bubrick was just 15 years old when doctors diagnosed her with Hodgkin lymphoma. After undergoing treatment, she later found out she also had thyroid cancer. Bubrick decided to wish upon a star about her dream: that she could one day be on a Broadway show. “I decided to perform in a Broadway show because theater is what makes me the happiest. It’s Broadway — that’s the dream,” she said. Actor Michael James Scott, who plays the Genie in “Aladdin” the musical, helped break the news to Bubrick that her wish of being on Broadway was happening. “Your wish has been granted! You will be joining me for a cameo in ‘Aladdin,'” said James in a video message to her. Upon arriving at the New Amsterdam Theatre, Bubrick was given the full Broadway experience. From meeting the people behind the show, to learning the choreography and getting a sneak peak of her performance wardrobe, the 18-year-old was treated just like any cast member.

BALTIMORE — Salvage teams have recovered the body of the sixth – and believed to be the final – victim killed in the March 26 Baltimore bridge collapse, authorities announced Tuesday, marking a grim milestone in the weekslong recovery operation that followed the disaster. The victim was identified as 37-year-old José Mynor López of Baltimore, Maryland. CNN has previously reported Lopez has three children and was the main provider of his family. “Investigators from the Maryland State Police, along with an FBI Victim Specialist and linguist, and a team of mental health professionals notified family members after a positive identification was confirmed,” the Unified Command, a joint task force composed of police, Coast Guard and other government agencies to respond to the disaster, said in a statement online. For the first time, 30% of electricity produced worldwide was from clean energy sources as the number of solar and wind farms continued to grow fast. Of the types of clean energy generated last year, hydroelectric dams produced the most. That’s the same as in most years. Yet droughts in India, China, North America and Mexico meant hydropower hit a five-year low. Research shows climate change is causing droughts to develop more quickly and be more severe. People used more electricity than ever last year, about 2% more, an increase of about as much as Canada uses in a year.
