RED BLUFF— Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers in the Tehama County areas of Manton, Paynes Creek, Mineral, and the Shingletownn area in Shasta will be affected by a Friday night planned power outage while the company conducts safety and reliability work. PG&E said the six-hour planned power outage is necessary so crews can safely perform work on insulators, grounds and a switch at the Volta substation near Manton. The planned outage will begin at about 11 p.m. and last until about 5 a.m. The utility company has notified nearly 4,000 customers whose services will be affected by the planned outage through letters and automated phone calls. Regional Vice President of PG&E’s North Valley and Sierra Region Joe Wilson said the company has worked hard to keep this planned power outage as short as possible and to occur at a time that it hopes will cause only a minimal inconvenience to customers while crews perform vital work to ensure safety and reliability. PG&E notified officials in affected counties and emergency agencies in the region to ensure they were aware.

Here’s what to know about the year — so far — in measles. How many measles cases has the U.S. seen this year? Nationwide, measles cases already are nearly double the total for all of last year. The U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention documented 113 cases as of April 5. There have been seven outbreaks and most of U.S. cases — 73% — are linked to those flare-ups. Still, the count is lower than some recent years: 2014 saw 667 cases and 2019 had 1,274. Why is this a big deal? The 2019 measles epidemic was the worst in almost three decades, and threatened the United States’ status as a country that has eliminated measles by stopping the continual spread of the measles virus. By JONEL ALECCIA (AP Health Writer) Drug regulators in Europe have found no evidence that popular diabetes and weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy are linked to a higher risk of suicidal thoughts or actions. The European Medicines Agency regulatory committee announced the results of its review on Friday. It’s the latest group to conclude there’s no known tie between a new class of obesity drugs and suicide. In January, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said a preliminary review showed no evidence of such a link, though the agency said it could not rule out that “a small risk may exist” and that it would continue to study the issue. A federally funded U.S. study also found that people taking semaglutide, the medication in Ozempic and Wegovy, had a lower risk of suicidal thoughts than those taking older medications to treat diabetes and obesity. The review by the European Union’s regulators was triggered last July by anecdotal reports that people taking the drugs had thoughts of self-harm. A stolen 18-wheeler was intentionally crashed into the Brenham DPS Office on Friday, Texas officials said. According to officials from Texas DPS – Southeast Texas Region, the vehicle intentionally ran into the Brenham DPS Office at about 10:41 a.m. A suspect is in custody. Our sister station KTRK’s SkyEye video shows extensive damage to the front of the office and 18-wheeler. Of the more than a dozen people injured, DPS said three were flown to the hospital in critical condition. The suspected driver of the 18-wheeler reportedly refused treatment, Brenham police said. People who have concerns can fill out an online comment form by Friday’s deadline to share their opinions. The proposal will be considered for approval by the district’s governing board on April 17. Latest Report: Clovis Unified board reviews final proposed school boundaries map District administrators say boundary changes are necessary to ease overcrowding at certain schools. The Golden State Warriors are the new No. 9 seed in the NBA’s Western Conference. After beating the Portland Trail Blazers (21-59), 100-92, on Thursday night, the Warriors (45-35) jumped ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers (45-35) thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker. If the play-in tournament started Friday, the Warriors would play the Lakers in the first play-in game, with another play-in game victory needed to advance to the NBA postseason. But there’s still time for the Warriors to wiggle their way up the standings.
