Veteran journalist Chris Wallace is exiting CNN three years after joining from Fox News. “Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming,” CNN Chairman and Chief Executive Mark Thompson said in a statement Monday. “We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for future.” Wallace, 77, is the first and likely not last big-name TV news talent to leave in the coming months. Major cost-cutting is expected across media organizations following the 2024 presidential election. Wallace was expected to be a cost-cutting target. He was poached from Fox News in late 2021 at a salary said to be in the range of $8 million a year. His two weekend programs, “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” and “The Chris Wallace Show,” are modest performers in the ratings for the network. For weeks, an elderly woman complained to her family about the strange knocking sounds coming from beneath her El Sereno home late at night. On Thursday, police made a terrifying discovery. The noises were no stray opossum or raccoon but a man — reportedly naked and, authorities said, living in the crawl space underneath the woman’s home. The noises “were usually late at night, so we just chalked it up to animals being in the house,” the woman’s son-in-law Ricardo Silva told NBC News. But on Thursday, the sounds were much louder than usual, prompting the family of the 93-year-old woman to phone the police, he said. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at the 3600 block of Locke Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and discovered the man underneath the house, according to an LAPD spokesperson. The man refused to emerge from his underground dwelling, and officers called in a SWAT team to assist with the arrest, the spokesperson said. An hours-long standoff ensued before the man was taken into custody on suspicion of trespassing, he said. Police remained on scene until

With some celebrations ranging from flag-raising ceremonies to military vehicle displays, communities across Southern California found ways to honor servicemen and women this Veterans Day. Sierra Vista Middle School in Covina hosted the annual Field of Valor event, planting 26 historical flags and 2,001 U.S. flags in its field to honor troops and veterans. Every year, the nonprofit Field of Valor holds this event to invite community members of all ages to come and learn about the importance of veterans to society. “In 2011, the Pentagon predicted that 20% of veterans would be homeless,” said Linda Logan, the head of Fields of Valor. “I just sat there and said, ‘This is not acceptable, we have to find a way to help them.’” Now, more than a decade later, Logan’s nonprofit organization works with the Veterans Administration to help veterans stay housed and off the streets.  To date, more than 560 veterans have received the help they need. A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in the parking lot of an Anaheim park, according to the Anaheim Police Department. Police received reports around 8:30 p.m. Sunday regarding a teenager rushed to the Anaheim Regional Medical Center by friends, where he died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, Sgt. Armando Pardo said. Police say the shooting occurred at the John Marshall Park on West La Palma Avenue, east of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, at about 8 p.m. Details regarding the suspect and motivation behind the crime were unclear.

At the time of Di’Anno’s death, his longtime label, Conquest Music, said he had been dealing with “several health issues” without offering further details. Representatives for Di’Anno said Monday they had since received permission from the singer’s family to reveal the results of his autopsy. “His sisters Cheryl and Michelle confirmed the following: ‘Basically he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery and that has caused the heart to stop,’ ” the Facebook statement said. “Paul’s death was instantaneous and hopefully painless. John Robinson, who coached his signature run-oriented USC football team to a national title and took the Los Angeles Rams to two NFL conference championship games, has died. He was 89. Robinson, whose USC teams won four Rose Bowls in his two stints with the Trojans, died Monday in Baton Rouge, La., of complications from pneumonia, USC announced. Robinson succeeded the legendary John McKay at USC in 1976 and continued the Trojans’ winning tradition for seven seasons. The Rams lured him to pro football in 1983 and he led the franchise to numerous playoff appearances and the brink of two Super Bowls before returning to USC a decade later. His last coaching job was at Nevada Las Vegas, where he temporarily revived a moribund program. After his coaching career ended in 2004, Robinson worked as a broadcaster and a volunteer assistant football coach at his grandson’s high school in San Diego County. LOS ANGELES (AP) — John Robinson, the veteran football coach who enjoyed many years of success at the University of Southern California and with the Los Angeles Rams, has died. He was 89. The Rams confirmed Robinson’s death on Monday. He died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, of complications from pneumonia, USC said in a release. Robinson is high on the short list of football coaches who enjoyed significant success in both the college and pro ranks. He went 104-35-4 at USC and 75-68 with the Rams, winning postseason games and contending for championships regularly with both teams. Robinson was particularly successful in bowl games, going 8-1 in the postseason with USC and UNLV. “Coach Robinson was one of the greatest college coaches ever, and his love for USC and his love for the game of football was second to none,” said Ronnie Lott, an All-American safety under Robinson at USC. “I’ve always felt that while playing for him, he gave us the ability to feel like we were larger than life. California drivers may see gas prices climb next year after state regulators voted to toughen fuel standards in an effort to cut pollution and reliance on fossil fuel. While environmental officials back the plan as a step toward a cleaner environment, opponents argue it’ll hit Californians in the wallet. The updated standards approved Friday by the California Air Resources Board set new goals for slashing emissions from fuel by 30% by 2030 and 90% by 2045. “The low carbon fuel standard has already successfully created lower-cost, lower-carbon alternatives, and the benefits of the proposal vastly outweigh those costs,” Steven Cliff, the agency’s executive officer, said last month. CARB acknowledges that the changes could add around 47 cents per gallon by 2025. However, a study from the University of Pennsylvania warns the impact could be closer to 65 cents a gallon in 2025, reaching 85 cents by 2030 and nearly $1.50 by 2035.
