Cole Hauser wants more ‘Yellowstone’ too, especially a spinoff for Rip and Beth

Actor Cole Hauser is gunning for more “Yellowstone” as the hit Paramount Network series rides toward its conclusion. The actor, who plays “hired gun” Rip Wheeler in Taylor Sheridan’s neo-western drama, told People that it would “sure would be a shame to stop a great thing.” “I believe the numbers speak for themselves and America has spoken,” Hauser told the outlet, adding that he hopes viewers love the final six episodes of Season 5, which began airing Sunday — nearly two years since the show’s midseason finale and without its lead actor, Kevin Costner. “And, you know, maybe there’ll be more,” Hauser mused. “Maybe they’re wrong. But if this is it, then it’s been one hell of a ride.” The “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Rogue” alum noted that “as long as Taylor Sheridan is writing,” he would be interested in returning to the “Yellowstone” universe, bringing back his character, whom he described as an “an American man who is unapologetic, honest, loyal with strong values.” There has been talk about extending the wildly popular drama’s five-season run with Hauser and Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton

Newsom heads to D.C. to lobby for California’s wish list before Trump takes over

With the clock ticking before President-elect Trump is sworn in, Gov. Gavin Newsom is heading to Washington this week to push for the Biden administration to safeguard some marquee California programs on the environment and disaster funding that are likely to be threatened after the Trump takeover. The move is the latest in the governor’s highly visible effort to shield California from the second edition of the Trump presidency, which has elicited predictable fury from the Republican standard-bearer. Last week, Newsom convened a special session of the Legislature to increase funding for litigation against the Trump administration. Trump countered by deploying his favored nickname for the governor and blasted “Newscum” for attempting to “Trump-proof” the state and “stopping all of the GREAT things that can be done to ‘Make California Great Again.’” Newsom is set to fly out Monday morning and, once at the Capitol, meet this week with members of California’s congressional delegation and key officials in the Biden-Harris administration. At the top of his agenda: pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to give the green light on waivers so that the state’s more stringent

Here’s how many veterans live in California compared to states

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, military veterans comprise roughly 6% of the United States population. In some states, however, veterans represent an even larger part of the public. The Census Bureau’s most recent American Community Survey estimates more than 15.8 million Americans previously served. Unsurprisingly, the nation’s most-populated states — Texas, Florida, and California — are home to the most veterans. What is open and closed on Veterans Day? Texas has the greatest number at nearly 1.4 million. Florida has 1.32 million, and California has 1.24 million, or 4.1% of the population. In four states and the District of Columbia, less than 50,000 residents are veterans: Vermont, Wyoming, Rhode Island, and North Dakota. The interactive map below shows the number of residents in each state that have served, as well as the percentage of the state’s population that are veterans: Alaska has the largest percentage of former servicemen and women, with roughly 10.5% of its population being veterans. Census data estimates suggest roughly 23,000 of them — or about 42% — served between September 2001 and now. Nearly 16,000 served during the first decade

John Solie/Getty Images In the post-pandemic era, home equity loan rates and home equity line of credit (HELOC) rates rose as the Federal Reserve increased the benchmark interest rate. While the cost of home equity loans and HELOCs remained affordable compared with credit cards and personal loans, rates were far higher than they’ve been in recent decades.  Now, however, the Fed has shifted its policies, cutting rates 50 basis points at its September meeting and signaling further rates are coming. Israel faces U.S. deadline to dramatically increase flow of aid to Gaza

Israel allows more aid into Gaza Israel allows additional aid into Gaza under U.S. pressure but it still falls short 01:47 Tel Aviv — Early this fall in Gaza, aid workers doled out one food portion per mealtime, per family to starving civilians displaced by Israel’s raging war with Hamas . But as Israel choked off aid deliveries to the Palestinian territory, the meals dwindled. Last week, the United Nations again warned that some Gazans are facing famine conditions. Israel’s government faces a deadline this Wednesday. The Biden administration warned almost a month ago that Israel must significantly increase the amount of aid reaching Gaza’s beleaguered civilian population within 30 days, or it would face restrictions on American military support to the country. The ultimatum, laid out in a letter from the administration to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his deputies, appears to have had some impact. Potential replacements for the century-old refinery complex covering 650 acres include housing and last-mile distribution centers for e-commerce merchants, both of which are in high demand. There may be shops, restaurants, and sports and entertainment venues. “It’s a tremendous opportunity,” real estate analyst Jesse Gundersheim said. “Where else are you going to find hundred of acres of developable land in L.A or coastal California?” Oil giant Phillips 66 announced last month that late next year it will close the twin refineries in Carson and Wilmington that produce about 8% of the state’s gasoline. About 900 workers currently operate the refinery, which also produces diesel and jet fuel. The Phillip 66 refinery in Wilmington was built in 1919 and produces produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuels, which are distributed by pipeline and by truck to customers in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
