NFL Preseason: Watch the Raiders vs. 49ers live on KTLA

The Las Vegas Raiders are gearing up to host the San Francisco 49ers on Friday in a final preseason matchup at Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders fielded a top-10-scoring defense last season, added star tackle Christian Wilkins to the lineup and then dominated the Las Vegas offense in the early days of training camp. Then, the Raiders played two preseason games, and their defense was, well, not top-10 quality. Coach Antonio Pierce has bemoaned the problems against the run, and there were issues in the secondary in last Saturday’s 27-12 loss to Dallas. The Cowboys, playing reserves, successfully threw the ball against a Raiders defense with six starters still in the game. Gardner Minshew, who is known for being a spark off the bench, spoke to reporters Tuesday night for the first time since beating out Aidan O’Connell for the starting quarterback job. Ventura man found with child porn on laptop after bringing device in for repairs: D.A.

A Ventura man is accused of keeping a “large quantity” of child pornography on his computer, which was discovered when he brought it to a local computer shop for repairs. Matthew Glenn Longwill, 49, was arrested on Aug. 5 and appeared in court Thursday to face one felony charge of possession of child sexual abuse material. Longwill pleaded not guilty, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. He became the subject of an investigation after he brought his laptop in to a local store for repairs and the material was allegedly found on his hard drive. Officers from the Ventura Police Department obtained a search warrant for his home and found more of the material on other devices in his home. Jail records indicate that Longwill works as a chiropractor, and a local business that lists his name as the owner and operator offers adult, child and infant chiropractic services. Longwill is currently out of custody on $50,000 bail and is prohibited from having any contact with minors as a condition of his release. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 26, the

There were four other titles that topped the 1 billion minutes watched mark for the week on July 22-29. “Bluey,” which streams on Disney+, rose three spots to second with 1.064 billion minutes watched of the Australian animated children’s series’ 154 episodes, a 2.8% increase over the 1.035 billion minutes watched the previous week. “Cobra Kai” was third for the second consecutive week with 1.048 billion minutes watched of the 55 episodes of Netflix’s sequel to the 1984 film “The Karate Kid,” 3.4% less than the 1.085 billion minutes the previous week when the first five episodes of its sixth season were released. “House of the Dragon,” dropped two spots to fourth with 1.039 billion minutes watched of the 17 episodes of Max’s “Game of Thrones” prequel, 6.1% less than the 1.107 billion minutes for 16 episodes the previous week. “Family Guy” rose one spot to fifth with

Kamala Harris poised to make history, accept Democratic presidential nomination tonight

CHICAGO —  Vice President Kamala Harris is preparing to make history Thursday night as she becomes the first Black woman and first Indian American to accept a major party presidential nomination. The moment will be heavy with symbolism, with many women at the Democratic National Convention at Chicago’s United Center planning to wear white to commemorate the suffrage movement. But Harris has so far used this week’s convention to make a case beyond the history, emphasizing her personal biography, the party’s loosely defined “freedom” agenda and the case against returning former President Trump to the White House. “We came here to Chicago with one mission in three parts,” Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic House leader, told California’s delegates Thursday morning. “Celebrate Joe Biden, elevate Kamala Harris, eviscerate MAGA extremism.” The contest is essentially a toss-up at this point, according to pollsters. But Harris’ elevation to the top of the ticket just over a month ago, after President Biden stepped aside, has given Democrats hope that they have a chance. Harris, the vice president for four years, has sought to portray herself as a tough prosecutor who

Robert Downey Jr. reveals how Kevin Feige persuaded him to return as Doctor Doom

Robert Downey Jr. is explaining how Kevin Feige persuaded him to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom. Downey said Tuesday that he and the Marvel Studios boss had a conversation last year about Downey potentially returning to the MCU despite the “Avengers: End Game” death of his previous character, Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man. “He said, ‘It just keeps occurring to me, if you were to come back,’” Downey told the Hollywood Reporter. “‘How can we not go backwards? How can we not disappoint expectations? How can we continue to beat expectations?’ … And he brought up Victor Von Doom. I looked into this character. Later on, he goes, ‘Let’s get Victor Von Doom right.’” Doom is one of Marvel’s most formidable villains and will play a crucial role in the upcoming phase of Avengers films and the broader MCU. In Marvel comics, he is a primary adversary of the Fantastic Four. Downey had initially sought a meeting with Disney‘s Bob Iger to discuss contributing to the company’s parks and location-based entertainment. The “Iron Man” actor’s involvement in theme park

USC camp takeaways: Secondary should be strong point of revamped defense

Aug. 22, 2024 3:30 PM PT 1 Greedy Vance heard all the whispers about USC as he weighed his options this offseason. A coveted corner coming from a top-flight defense at Florida State, Vance had his pick of the transfer portal. Yet here he was joining a USC unit that scraped the bottom of the FBS last year. “There were a lot of people in my ear about the defense,” the redshirt senior said. “I just wanted to come in and be a part of the turnaround.” If there is a turnaround in store for the Trojans defense this season, then the secondary is certainly where it will start. There may not be a deeper position on USC’s roster this fall than cornerback, where Vance has joined a room with at least six viable starting options, most of whom are capable of playing multiple positions. Vance is likely to get the nod at nickel, while two other transfers — DeCarlos Nicholson (Mississippi State) and John Humphrey (UCLA) — are among the top three options at outside corner, along with Jacobe Covington. The safety spots are

WATCH: Dems make final pitch on DNC Day 4

(NEXSTAR) – Kamala Harris is set to accept her party’s nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, capping a four-day event that included ringing endorsements from President Biden and former Presidents Obama and Clinton — and even a few figures from her Republican opponent’s former administration. The theme of the fourth and final night — “For Our Future” — will showcase how Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, plan to “lead America into a brighter, more hopeful era,” according to organizers. Early speakers in the evening included equality advocate Rev. Al Sharpton, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa), and U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich). Final ‘People Mover’ cars arrive at LAX in major milestone for delayed project

A sight for sore eyes, an important milestone was reached on the LAX Automated People Mover project. On Wednesday, Los Angeles World Airports announced that the final four train cars to be used on its People Mover track have arrived from their manufacturer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. One of the last four Automated People Mover vehicles for LAX is shown as it arrives at the airport in this undated photo provided by Los Angeles World Airports. The system now includes 44 train cars, the first of which arrived more than two years ago. The Automated People Mover, or APM, is the centerpiece of a multi-billion dollar modernization effort at LAX. The 2.25-mile system aims to improve the passenger experience, alleviate traffic and connect one of the busiest airports in the world with better public transit with six new stations along its route, connecting to parking structures, car rental facilities and a new LA Metro transit facility in El Segundo. Wednesday’s announcement was a refreshing good piece of news for a project that has made headlines for being both delayed and over budget. The project was approved in 2018 and

Why women are wearing all white at the DNC

CHICAGO —  As Vice President Kamala Harris prepared to greet delegates at the final night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, a sea of women clad in white clothing was preparing to meet her. White suits, white dresses and at least one pair of white lace socks filled the Chicago arena, as women dressed to honor the legacy of suffragists who fought to give women the right to vote — and to celebrate the first Black and Indian American woman to become a major party’s nominee. “Wearing white today reminds everybody that this is women on the move, women who have suffered, who are now taking their rightful place in leadership of Democratic Party politics in a profound way,” said Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles), who wore a white pantsuit over a colorful blouse. She added that “women are on the ballot,” with abortion access such a prominent issue for Democrats this year. Signs, signs, everywhere a sign at the DNC: From ‘Coach Walz’ to ‘Jill’ to ‘We ❤️ Joe’

CHICAGO  —  They float across the convention floor, into people’s hands and onto TV screens across America. Invisible until they’re ubiquitous, the signs at the Democratic National Convention burst into sight like a time-lapse photo of a poppy flower superbloom. (Robert Gauthier/Los Angeles Times) Call it political sign language. And the signs, hundreds of them, have been a showcase feature of the convention since it was called to order Monday in Chicago. A sea of “We ❤️ Joe” signs surged across the United Center floor on the first night of the for President Biden’s speech Monday. Then came the “Doug” and “Doug for First Mensch” posters when Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff took the stage Tuesday night, a nod to his Jewish heritage and the Yiddish term for a good guy. On Wednesday, vice presidential nominee Tim Walz was greeted with “Coach Walz” signs on sticks, a reference to the Minnesota governor’s years as a high school football coach. (Not surprisingly, his speech contained football imagery: “Team, it’s the fourth quarter, we’re down a field goal, but we’re on offense and we’ve got the ball.”) The

Poll analysis: What Democrats’ excitement for Harris means and what it doesn’t

By Jennifer De Pinto Updated on: August 22, 2024 / 6:00 PM EDT / CBS News How many 2024 voters are persuadable? How many voters are persuadable in 2024 election? 04:25 More Democrats now say this election is about hope about what might happen, rather than fear. Democrats are excited about Kamala Harris , but she trails GOP nominee Donald Trump on some key issues among the electorate overall. As Vice President Kamala Harris prepares to accept her party’s nomination for president, most Democrats are excited about her, and since she first became the presumptive nominee , more of them have said they’ll definitely vote.  With this excitement, there’s also a more optimistic outlook. We’ve been asking whether in general voters see this election as more about hope for what could happen or fear for what might happen. For Democrats, hope now eclipses fear.  While Democrats may be excited and strongly backing Harris, she still faces some of the same deficits with the broader electorate that President Biden did. Harris runs behind former President Donald Trump on some key issues in this election, like the economy

Canada’s freight train shutdown to end as government steps in

August 22, 2024 / 5:43 PM EDT / AP 2 Canada freight rails in labor dispute Why Canada’s 2 major freight railroads locked out workers 03:23 Freight trains in Canada were expected to roll again soon after the government forced a contract dispute into arbitration Thursday, averting potentially dire economic consequences  for businesses and consumers across the country and in the U.S. Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon announced the decision to order the arbitration between the country’s two major freight railroads — Canadian National and CPKC — and Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, the union representing nearly 10,000 engineers, conductors and dispatchers. MacKinnon’s announcement came moments after The Associated Press broke the news publicly, citing an official familiar with the situation who was not allowed to speak publicly before the announcement. Both CN and CPKC have said that once the dispute enters arbitration the trains will be able to move again, but it wasn’t immediately clear how quickly that would happen. MacKinnon said he expects it will be within days. The railroads locked out their employees after a 12:01 a.m. EDT deadline to resolve the dispute with
