San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa was fined by the NFL after he crashed a postgame interview wearing a MAGA hat. The league fined Bosa $11,255 after he crashed the live interview after his team’s win against the Dallas Cowboys late last month, a league source told CNN and The Associated Press. Bosa spoke with the media after it was announced the presidential race would go for President-elect Trump. He said if the NFL fined him for jumping into the interview, it wouldn’t matt e r much to him. “I don’t know,” he said Wednesday when asked if he thought he would get a fine. “I haven’t gotten one yet, but if it comes, it comes.” He added that he knew he could get a fine from the NFL, but it was “well worth it” to wear the hat. John Solie/Getty Images In the post-pandemic era, home equity loan rates and home equity line of credit (HELOC) rates rose as the Federal Reserve increased the benchmark interest rate. While the cost of home equity loans and HELOCs remained affordable compared with credit cards and personal loans, rates were far higher than they’ve been in recent decades.  Now, however, the Fed has shifted its policies, cutting rates 50 basis points at its September meeting and signaling further rates are coming. Both HELOC rates and home equity loan rates have begun to decline , prompting renewed interest in new loans and leaving many borrowers wondering if it’s a good time to refinance their existing home equity debt . Israel faces U.S. deadline to dramatically increase flow of aid to Gaza

Israel allows more aid into Gaza Israel allows additional aid into Gaza under U.S. pressure but it still falls short 01:47 Tel Aviv — Early this fall in Gaza, aid workers doled out one food portion per mealtime, per family to starving civilians displaced by Israel’s raging war with Hamas . But as Israel choked off aid deliveries to the Palestinian territory, the meals dwindled. Last week, the United Nations again warned that some Gazans are facing famine conditions. Israel’s government faces a deadline this Wednesday. The Biden administration warned almost a month ago that Israel must significantly increase the amount of aid reaching Gaza’s beleaguered civilian population within 30 days, or it would face restrictions on American military support to the country. The ultimatum, laid out in a letter from the administration to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his deputies, appears to have had some impact. The South Bay is in for a large-scale transformation near the Port of Los Angeles as Phillips 66 shuts down its sprawling refineries and makes way for developers to reimagine the prime real estate. Potential replacements for the century-old refinery complex covering 650 acres include housing and last-mile distribution centers for e-commerce merchants, both of which are in high demand. There may be shops, restaurants, and sports and entertainment venues. “It’s a tremendous opportunity,” real estate analyst Jesse Gundersheim said. “Where else are you going to find hundred of acres of developable land in L.A or coastal California?” Oil giant Phillips 66 announced last month that late next year it will close the twin refineries in Carson and Wilmington that produce about 8% of the state’s gasoline. About 900 workers currently operate the refinery, which also produces diesel and jet fuel. The Phillip 66 refinery in Wilmington was built in 1919 and produces produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuels, which are distributed by pipeline and by truck to customers in California, Nevada, and Arizona. What to know about Tom Homan, Trump’s new border czar

Trump makes early administration picks Trump picks Tom Homan as “border czar,” offers U.N. ambassador post to Elise Stefanik 03:09 Tom Homan, tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to be his second administration’s border czar , is a veteran immigration official and immigration hawk whose law enforcement career spans decades.  Once a police officer in New York state and Border Patrol agent, the Obama administration tapped him to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deportation branch in 2013. During Homan’s time at ICE under President Obama, the agency carried out record numbers of formal deportations. Obama gave Homan a Presidential Rank Award, the highest civil service recognition.  Trump early in his first term named Homan acting director of ICE. He quickly generated controversy when he suggested undocumented immigrants “should be afraid” under the Trump administration.  Homan was one of the masterminds of the first Trump administration’s infamous “zero tolerance” policy, which led to the separation of thousands of migrant children from their parents. The parents were prosecuted for illegal entry, while the children were sent to shelters for unaccompanied minors — without a plan to reunite them.

Diver finds gold ring lost in ocean 47 years ago, surprises its owner

Hunting sunken treasure in the Bahamas Hunting sunken treasure in the Bahamas 06:37 In 1977, Morgan Perigo’s gold college graduation ring was lost to the ocean while on a trip to Barbados with his wife and two young sons. Perigo, who graduated from McMaster University in Canada in 1965, searched for the ring in vain. “One day I took my younger son and waded into the ocean. He was knocked over by a wave, so I reached to grab hold of him. He pulled on my hand and my Mac Alumni ring came off,” Perigo, now 83, said in an email to the university. “We searched for it but were unsuccessful.” Forty-seven years later, Perigo got his ring back. The surprise reunion unfolded thanks to Alex Davis, a professional freediver who recently discovered the jewelry while using an underwater metal detector. There were three clues inscribed on the ring — the name of the school, the year 1965 and the initials FMP, Davis told the university. “[It’s] not surprising the gold has tarnished around the stone setting and the stag emblem is a bit worn

Newsom’s war on Trump heats up with D.C. trip to lobby for California’s wish list

With the clock ticking before President-elect Trump is sworn in, Gov. Gavin Newsom is heading to Washington this week to push for the Biden administration to safeguard some marquee California programs on the environment and disaster funding that are likely to be threatened after the Trump takeover. The move is the latest in the governor’s highly visible effort to shield California from the second edition of the Trump presidency, which has elicited predictable fury from the Republican standard-bearer. Last week, Newsom convened a special session of the Legislature to increase funding for litigation against the Trump administration. Trump countered by deploying his favored nickname for the governor and blasted “Newscum” for attempting to “Trump-proof” the state and “stopping all of the GREAT things that can be done to ‘Make California Great Again.’” Newsom is set to fly out Monday morning and, once at the Capitol, meet this week with members of California’s congressional delegation and key officials in the Biden-Harris administration. At the top of his agenda: pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to give the green light on waivers so that the state’s more stringent

Editorial: This election showed L.A. voters are fed up with City Hall corruption and scandal

Two years after the leaked audio scandal rocked Los Angeles City Hall, voters finally had their say in this election. And speak they did. Voters overwhelmingly backed charter changes designed to curb elected officials’ political power by creating an independent redistricting commission and empowering the city’s Ethics Commission. Advocates had long pushed for these reforms, but until the 2022 scandal, they had been blocked by the city’s political leadership. The measures were passing with nearly 75% support as of Friday afternoon. Voters in Council District 14, meanwhile, ousted Councilmember Kevin de León, who refused to resign after being caught on tape making deplorable, racially divisive comments. Tenants rights attorney and first-time candidate Ysabel Jurado had a double-digit lead over the veteran politician at last count. This was an important election for Los Angeles, even if it was overshadowed by the presidential race. City voters laid the groundwork for fairer, more representative elections by passing Charter Amendment DD, enacting independent redistricting. That means the city’s politicians can no longer draw their own district boundaries and effectively choose their own voters. The leaked recording revealed De León
