LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Mystik Dan won the 150th Kentucky Derby in a three-horse photo finish, edging out Sierra Leone by a nose with Forever Young third in the tightest finish since 1996 on Saturday. Sent off at 18-1 odds, Mystik Dan and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. rode the rail down the stretch with a short lead. Sierra Leona, the second choice at 9-2 odds, and Forever Young from Japan gave chase and pressured the leader to the wire in front of 156,710 at Churchill Downs. The crowd waited several minutes before the result was reviewed by the stewards and declared official. “The longest few minutes of my life,” Hernandez said, after he and bay colt walked in circles while the stunning result was settled. Fierceness, the 3-1 favorite, finished 15th in the field of 20 3-year-olds. Police search for suspects after double shooting in central San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Police are searching for suspects after a man and woman were shot in the Stockton neighborhood Friday night. According to the San Diego Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3100 block of L Street around 10:30 p.m. Bodies of three missing surfers found, Baja California authorities say Upon arrival, police located a 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his right lower leg. Officers provided first aid to the victim, and continued investigating the incident. A short time later, the department said a 35-year-old woman suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen was also found in the area. Both victims were transported by ambulance to local hospitals. Police said they are expected to recover from their injuries. Neither victim could provide a suspect description or details regarding the incident. The department’s Street Gangs Unit was notified of the incident and is investigating. Anyone with information related to the double shooting is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

Arrest made in North County hit-and-run that left bicyclist dead

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A suspect has been taken into custody in connection to a hit-and-run collision that left a woman dead in Oceanside back in March. As explained by the Oceanside Police Department, the victim, now identified as 51-year-old Tracey Gross, was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of State Route 76 and Singh Way on Sunday, March 17.  Bodies of three missing surfers found, Baja California authorities say Officers found a bicycle with major damage about two miles down the road from where the pedestrian was found. Gross later passed away while receiving medical treatment for her injuries, police said. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene. Simanek, Ret., who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Korean War at Outpost Irene, Korea. Pfc, the Navy’s press explained. Simanek, according to General Dynamics NASSCO, shielded fellow Marines from a grenade at the Battle of Bunker Hill during the Korean War. San Diego County sues ghost gun manufacturer

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The County of San Diego and national gun safety group GIFFORD Law Center have partnered on a lawsuit against Defense Distributed, a gun manufacturing company. The county claims the company did a bait and switch on an already banned product. “They are profiting on death and they need to be held accountable,” said county supervisor vice chair Terra Lawson-Remer. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Oceanside Pier is set to reopen next Friday after a fire erupted at the end of the pier last week, city officials said. Fourth body found where three missing surfers located

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Baja California Attorney General’s Office on Friday confirmed a fourth body was found after authorities located the bodies of three missing surfers, including one U.S. citizen San Diego resident, who went missing during a surfing trip south of Ensenada, Mexico. All four bodies were found in a well near a surfing spot known as La Bocana, about 130 miles south of San Diego, according to the attorney general’s office. The fourth body was identified as a ranch owner who was reported missing two weeks ago, per officials. He owned the property where the bodies were found, the attorney general said. Rescuers say it took them around 20 hours to pull the bodies out of the well measuring almost 50 feet. The cause of death for all four victims has not been determined at this time, the attorney general’s office said.
