The U.S. has more ‘million-dollar’ cities than ever. Here’s where they are

The United States now has a record number of cities where the “typical” home is worth $1 million or more, indicating a continued surge in housing costs, according to a new Zillow report. In February, the nation boasted 550 “million-dollar” cities where the median home value was north of seven figures, up from 491 a year ago, the analysis shows. California had the most cities with homes valued over $1 million with 210; of the 210, three were in the Bay Area (Atherton, Los Altos Hills, Hillsborough) and one was in SoCal (Hidden Hills). New York had 66 “million-dollar” cities, while New Jersey — which experienced the largest year-over-year increase — finished with 49. Zillow noted that limited housing inventory keeps pushing home values up, and according to the National Association of Realtors, prices are expected to remain elevated this spring. Jewell ‘blushes’ at Kevin Costner dating rumors as she reveals painful mishap with a live raven

As a new magazine profile of Jewell attests, the singer-songwriter continues to keep people guessing — these days about her rumored romance with Kevin Costner, her upcoming “immersive art experience” in Arkansas and the nasty-looking cut on her right index finger, which she displayed in two recent TikTok videos. In one of those TIkTok videos, Jewell asked her fans to guess what “shenanigans” she has been up to and how she got the cut on her finger, offering a $100 reward for whoever guessed correctly. A couple of fans good-naturedly alluded to reports that she has been dating “Yellowstone” star Costner, with one saying the cut probably was caused by “Kevin Costner eating an apple with his pocket knife on your front porch when you got a little too close!” Another teased, “Kevin Costner wrangled ya!” LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 04: Kevin Costner speaks onstage during the Pre-GRAMMY Gala & GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icons Honoring Julie Greenwald and Craig Kallman on February 04, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. Aiyuk’s agent denies report about trade request by 49ers’ star receiver

SANTA CLARA – Brandon AIyuk’s agent suashed a report claiming that the 49ers’ leading receiver is seeking a trade. “You need better sources,” Ryan Williams of Athletes First wrote Sunday morning on Twitter/X, in response to a tweet from self-proclaimed NFL insider John Frascella who wrote that Aiyuk “officially” requested a trade. Aiyuk, after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He is slated to make $14.1 million on a fifth-year option. A contract extension is expected to be hammered out by training camp, just as the 49ers have done in recent years for other homegrown stars, including George Kittle, Fred Warner, Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa. The 49ers’ brass — owner Jed York, coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager  John Lynch – all insisted at last month’s league meeting in Florida the 49ers plan to reward Aiyuk and keep him long term. Taking a page out of the contract-negotiation playbook from other players, Aiyuk no longer follows the 49ers on Instagram – but he still does on Twitter/X. Neither Aiyuk nor Williams immediately responded to messages from this news

EPA’s finalized tailpipe standards garner broad support

On March 20th, the Environmental Protection Agency released finalized tailpipe emission standards that will govern the auto industry from 2027 to 2032. The skillfully crafted regulations balance the interests of many stakeholders and constitute a major achievement of the Biden Administration. The EPA intends to aggressively steer road transportation away from fossil fuels while acknowledging the fact that the auto industry cannot turn on a dime. The historic regulations will reduce tailpipe carbon dioxide targets for newly sold fleets by a whopping 50%, but stringency increases will be relaxed during the first years of the program to give automakers adequate time to electrify their line-ups. The EPA’s original proposal, published in April of 2023, was praised by environmentalists but opposed by the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AAI), a powerful lobbying group that represents the interests of major full-line automakers. The stringency of the tentative proposal was calibrated with an optimistic assumption that two thirds of newly sold light duty vehicles could be battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2032. The AAI was quick to point out that the proposal’s rapidly increasing stringency levels set a blistering

Biden convenes G7 to discuss the Iranian threat and prevent an escalation after the attack on Israel

By ZEKE MILLER (AP White House Correspondent) WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden convened the Group of Seven advanced democracies on Sunday to coordinate a rebuke to Iran for its unprecedented and largely unsuccessful aerial attack on Israel and to prevent a wider regional escalation. The United States assisted Israel in shooting down dozens of drones and missiles fired by Tehran in what was the first time that Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel. Israeli authorities said 99% of the inbound weapons were shot down without causing any significant damage. “At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week,” Biden said in a statement late Saturday. “Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.” Biden, in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that night, urged that Israel claim victory for its defense prowess as the president aimed to dissuade America’s closest Mideast ally from

Israel says 99% of drones and missiles launched by Iran were intercepted

TEL AVIV, Israel — Israel praised the success of its defenses in the face of an unprecedented attack by Iran involving hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles while tensions ran high over a possible Israeli counter-strike. An Israeli military spokesman said Sunday the launches numbered more than 300, but 99% of them were intercepted. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Iran fired 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles. Several ballistic missiles reached Israeli territory, causing minor damage to an air base. The Iranian attack on Saturday, less than two weeks after a suspected Israeli strike in Syria that killed two Iranian generals in an Iranian consular building, marked the first time Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel, despite decades of enmity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Israel and Iran have been on a collision course throughout Israel’s six-month war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. The war erupted after Hamas and Islamic Jihad, two militant groups backed by Iran, carried out a devastating cross-border attack on Oct. 7 that killed

MARGARET BRENNAN: We’re back with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva –  I got it right this time, I apologize. Oil markets. have been swinging because of this instability in the Middle East escalation risk, the threat to global shipping as well. Can you gauge at this point what the economic impact will be? INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND MANAGING DIRECTOR KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA: So far it has been somewhat moderate. We have seen on Friday, when the news of potential strike from Iran into Israel came, oil prices jumped by 1%. We have seen so far the impact of this conflict, primarily in the epicenter affecting Israel, and in particular, devastating Gaza and West Bank with spillovers to the neighboring countries. Even the shipping destruction in the Red Sea, has not yet led to a major impact. But any impact as small as it might be is not desirable in
