Suspect, innocent bystander, die following dangerous pursuit, officer-involved shooting in Southern California

The Ontario Police Department says two people are dead after a dangerous pursuit, and an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning. Authorities initially received a call about a disturbance in the 400 block of West Maple Street around 10 a.m. The caller informed emergency officials that his sister’s ex-boyfriend was parked outside their home, and was threatening to enter the residence if the woman did not come outside. The male caller informed officers that there had been numerous instances of domestic violence involving the suspect, and he had threatened his sister with a firearm previously. When officers arrived at the scene, they located the suspect — who had an outstanding warrant — sitting inside his vehicle. Ontario police commanded the suspect to surrender, but he refused telling responders that he did not want to go back to jail. The man then fled the scene, leading officers on a dangerous pursuit throughout the city. Ontario PD says the suspect was speeding on surface streets and proceeded to drive against traffic on a nearby freeway. A short time later, the suspect collided with multiple vehicles near the intersection of

SF Giants finally crack 4 runs, lose anyway as Logan Webb is roughed up by Phillies

PHILADELPHIA — Logan Webb, the Giants’ ace, is supposed to be the pitcher who stops skids and starts winning streaks. But, with one swing from Bryce Harper, the hopes of a Webb gem capable of turning the tides were dashed not long after first pitch Sunday for the second time this road trip. Attacking the Phillies’ slugger carefully all night, Webb elevated a 1-1 changeup just enough, catching just enough of the plate, so that Harper was able to barrel it up and send it into the bullpens in right-center field, putting the game out of reach for the Giants, who lost for the fifth time in six games on this trip, 5-4. Taking a streak of 19 scoreless innings into his start Tuesday in Boston, Webb has allowed nine runs (eight earned) over his past two games. He trudged back to the third-base dugout after using his 98th pitch of the evening to record the final out of the fourth inning with his team in a four-run hole. Lasting only 3⅔ his last time out, Webb failed to complete five innings in consecutive starts

(Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times) May 5, 2024 6:48 PM PT A student was ordered to leave UC Riverside after police said they searched an on-campus apartment and found an assault rifle, five high-capacity magazines and a journal with hand-drawn images of a violent act. The content of the drawings was not provided. Police are submitting the case to the Riverside County district attorney to decide whether criminal charges will be pursued. In the meantime, the student is on interim suspension and cannot return to campus pending the outcome of an administrative hearing. 3 bodies in Mexican well identified as Australian and American surfers killed for truck’s tires

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Relatives have identified three bodies found in a well as those of two Australian surfers and one American who went missing last weekend, Mexican authorities said Sunday. Baja California state prosecutors said the relatives had viewed the corpses recovered from a remote well about 50 feet (15 meters) deep and recognized them as their loved ones. Thieves apparently killed the three, who were on a surfing trip to Mexico’s Baja peninsula, to steal their truck because they wanted the tires. They then allegedly got rid of the bodies by dumping them in a well near the coast. The well was located some 4 miles (6 kilometers) from where the foreigners were killed, and also contained a fourth cadaver that had been there much longer. Three suspects are being held in connection with the case, which locals said was solved far more quickly than the disappearances of thousands of Mexicans. The three men were on a camping and surfing trip along a stretch of coast south of the city of Ensenada, posting idyllic photos on social media of waves and isolated beaches
