RFK Jr. endorses Trump; Harris rises in polls RFK Jr. endorses Trump as Harris campaign builds on DNC momentum 03:24 Former President Donald Trump has drawn the ire of another musical group for unauthorized use of their music. This time, it’s the Foo Fighters. Trump played the band’s song “My Hero” when he welcomed former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the stage at a rally in Arizona on Friday. Kennedy had announced earlier in the day that he had dropped his campaign for the presidency and endorsed Trump. The Republican Party’s nominee said Kennedy would “have a huge influence on this campaign.” However, they cannot count on the support of the Foo Fighters. Judge rules Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend caused her death, dismisses some charges against ex-officers

A federal judge has thrown out major felony charges against two former Louisville officers accused of falsifying a warrant that led police to Breonna Taylor’s door before they fatally shot her. U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson’s ruling declared that the actions of Taylor’s boyfriend, who fired a shot at police the night of the raid, were the legal cause of her death, not a bad warrant. Federal charges against former Louisville Police Detective Joshua Jaynes and former Sgt. Kyle Meany were announced by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022 during a high-profile visit to Louisville. Garland accused Jaynes and Meany, who were not present at the raid, of knowing they had falsified part of the warrant and put Taylor in a dangerous situation by sending armed officers to her apartment. But Simpson wrote in the Tuesday ruling that “there is no direct link between the warrantless entry and Taylor’s death.” Simpson’s ruling effectively reduced the civil rights violation charges against Jaynes and Meany, which had carried a maximum sentence of life in prison, to misdemeanors. The judge declined to dismiss a conspiracy charge against Jaynes and

Los Angeles Chargers players escape broken elevator through ceiling panel, team says

Several players and members of the Los Angeles Chargers traveling party experienced everybody’s worst nightmare on Friday night when an elevator broke down in a Dallas-area hotel, the team said. WFAA in Dallas reported that 15 people were trapped in the elevator. Citing Dallas Fire-Rescue, the report said the team members were stuck in a “blind shaft” between the third and fifteenth floor of The Westin hotel in downtown Dallas. The Chargers said DFR assisted the 15 people one-by-one as they crawled through a ceiling panel and into an adjacent elevator. As of Saturday, it wasn’t clear which players were involved. No one was harmed in the incident.

Hawaii’s Big Island is under a tropical storm warning as Hone approaches with rain and wind

By Audrey McAvoy | Associated Press HONOLULU (AP) — Tropical Storm Hone was approaching the southern edges of Hawaii on Saturday with gusts of wind and heavy rain, potentially inflicting flooding and wind damage on the Big Island over the weekend and raising the risk of wildfires on the drier sides of the islands. The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for Hawaii County, which includes all of the Big Island, and a red flag warning for the leeward sides of all islands. Hone, which means “sweet and soft” in Hawaiian, had top winds of 65 mph (105 kph) early Saturday. It will likely strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane as it passes near or south of the Big Island from Saturday night into early Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The Hawaii Tourism Authority told travelers it’s still safe to come to the islands but recommended that people postpone outdoor activities. “We are not advising visitors to cancel their trips,” the agency said in a news release. Hone was centered about 260 miles (415 kilometers) east-southeast of Hilo

Stanford Cardinal quarterback job unsettled heading into opener, but not for lack of candidates

STANFORD – Some quarterbacks might be upset when they drive the team inside the 5, only to see someone else come in to finish the possession. But Stanford junior Ashton Daniels said he was thankful when run-first quarterback Justin Lamson would take over the red zone offense at times last season. “It helps you to not get beat up in those short-yardage, goal-line situations,” Daniels said. “You’re not just taking every single hit, and it saves your body. Always thankful for the people who take on that role.” That team-first attitude and positive thinking have helped Daniels, who once again finds himself in an open competition during fall camp despite starting 10 games last season. Less than one week before the Cardinal host TCU in the season opener Friday, Stanford coach Troy Taylor has yet to announce a starter between Daniels, Lamson, and freshman Elijah Brown. “Ashton’s a really good player, had a really good camp,” said Taylor, who is also the quarterbacks coach. “Justin’s had a great fall camp, and Elijah’s had a fantastic camp too. Competition in our program is going to be

Bay FC’s comeback bid falls just short in battle of NWSL expansion teams

Racheal Kundananji, fresh off representing Zambia at the Paris Olympics, scored in the 83rd minute, but Bay FC’s comeback bid fell just short in a 2-1 road loss to the Utah Royals on Friday night. In a battle of NWSL expansion teams, Bay FC conceded two goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and then played catchup the remainder of the match. Bay FC (6-11-0) couldn’t find an equalizer despite having 19 shots against the Royals (3-11-3) before an announced crowd of 14,539 in Sandy, Utah. It was the first league match for both teams after a six-week Olympic break. “This one hurts,” Bay FC coach Albertin Montoya said following the match. “I mean, they all hurt, but this one that we deserved more than than what we got.” Despite the loss, Bay FC maintained its hold on the eighth and final NWSL playoff spot. The squad has seven more regular-season games remaining, including matches against fifth-place Portland, ninth-place Louisville, sixth-place North Carolina and first-place Orlando in the coming weeks. But first, Bay FC will play an exhibition against FC Barcelona Femení

At the time, he was suffering from fever, chills and severe fatigue.  Fauci said he left the hospital three days ago and is expected to make a full recovery at home.  The West Nile virus is primarily spread by mosquitoes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Fauci likely contracted the virus from a mosquito bite in his backyard, he said. There are no vaccines to prevent West Nile virus or medicines to treat its symptoms, but most people infected with the disease do not feel sick, according to

Who is 49ers’ QB2? Only Kyle Shanahan knows, and he’s not saying

So now what? There’s not a lot separating Brandon Allen and Joshua Dobbs in the battle to be the backup for 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy. Both had their moments in a 24-24 tie with the Las Vegas Raiders Friday night at Allegiant Stadium, and to the untrained eye their competition looks to be dead heat heading in to Tuesday’s cutdown to 53 men. Allen got 20 snaps and was 5-for-7 for 60 yards after taking over for Purdy, who thankfully seemed fine after making the questionable decision to throw his shoulder into Chris Smith II along the sideline on an interception return. It was a play that underscored how important a quality backup quarterback can be, something the 49ers learned the hard way losing both Trey Lance and Garoppolo (and finally Purdy) in 2022. Dobbs was 8-for-10 for 72 yards and a third-and-goal 10-yard touchdown strike to Jacob Cowing in his 21 snaps in the third and early fourth quarter. Dobbs and Cowing also connected on a 38-yard play in last week’s win over New Orleans. “Josh takes what the defense gives ’em and

Raise the local sales tax — yes or no? Here are the arguments being made to voters, and why they matter

Ballot arguments for and against San Diego’s proposed 1-cent sales tax hike paint starkly different pictures, with supporters focusing on a dire need of road repairs while opponents focus on city mismanagement. The roughly 300-word arguments, which appear in sample ballots mailed to all city voters, can be crucial to whether a measure passes or fails, because they might be the only information many voters get about it. While the statements will be seen only by voters in the city of San Diego, they are similar to arguments frequently made for and against sales tax increases — and 10 local cities have sales tax increases of varying size on the ballot Nov. 5. The argument in favor of the San Diego tax hike, which appears on the ballot as Measure E, calls it a “neighborhood improvement measure” that would provide millions for roads, infrastructure, emergency response and storm preparation. “Tired of bad roads, sidewalks and streetlights that don’t work?” the pro argument says. “With Measure E we can quickly begin to fill potholes, resurface roads, fix streetlights and improve our neighborhood infrastructure.” The pro argument
