Kai-Wei Teng to return to starting rotation in Triple-A; Sean Hjelle takes his spot in SF Giants bullpen

SAN FRANCISCO — Kai Wei-Teng is learning the tough reality of being the last reliever on the Giants’ 26-man roster. In that, the morning after providing mop-up duties, he no longer was on the roster. Teng, 25, was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento before Saturday’s game, clearing space to reinstate Sean Hjelle from his rehab assignment. He became the expendable option after allowing the Diamondbacks to widen their lead Friday night from 9-1 to 14-1 in the eventual 17-1 loss, using 36 pitches to record three outs while walking three batters and being tagged for four hits. “That’s kind of what happens in games like that,” manager Bob Melvin said. “Somebody of length goes (out).” It was the first time Teng took down fewer than three innings, raising the rookie’s ERA to 9.82 in four appearances. In 11 innings, he has seven strikeouts but eight walks. Called up out of necessity on March 29 when Luke Jackson went on the IL, Teng will return to starting at Triple-A, Melvin said. “He got a taste of the big leagues; I think that’s good experience for him,” Melvin

Bareback rider Bronc Marriott took the lead in his event, topping the other thirteen bareback riders with a score of 87 points. He was on the Rosser Rodeo Co. horse Right on Q, a horse he knew would be “kind of strong and electric.” The horse “came out, took a little stride, bailed right in the air, and I just kept hustling, we both did our jobs and it turned out right.” This year has been good for the Woods Cross, Utah cowboy. He is back to rodeo after taking off six months of last year due to torn ligaments in his riding hand, an injury suffered in June at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo. Tehama County Fire Department looks to buy two new 4×4 pickups

RED BLUFF — The Tehama County Board of Supervisors will consider the best way for the county fire department to buy two new Ford F-250 crew cab 4×4 pickups. According to county staff, this purchase will replace aging vehicles in the department’s fleet: a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan no longer conducive to our agency’s current needs and a 2017 Dodge Fire Marshal pickup with 95,574 miles. The new vehicles may generate revenue for Tehama County Fire while assigned to incidents. Staff proposed the supervisors adopt the finding that the state general services contract with Watsonville Fleet Group for the pickup trucks meets all the county’s bidding criteria and allows the county to take advantage of special low pricing without the time and expense involved with conducting a formal bid process. Staff budgeted the funds for the pickup trucks. In other business The supervisors will receive a presentation regarding AT&T coverage within the county. MLB players break this rule frequently — you may be guilty, too

Baseball: It’s America’s favorite pastime (though some argue it’s no longer “America’s sport”). The game itself has seen countless changes since it first began in the 1800s, especially when it comes to the rules. Take, for example, the pitch clock and the larger bases Major League Baseball has introduced in recent years. Katt Willliams’ comedy special to stream live on Netflix from Inglewood There are some rules, however, that seem to be frequently overlooked and broken in every game. None may be more true to that than Rule 4.06.  Players break this rule nearly every game. They break it with each other, they break it with fans. As a spectator, you may even have contributed to the violation of Rule 4.06.  Here’s a look at Baltimore Orioles infielder and MLB’s top prospect Jackson Holliday violating the rule at one of his first games in The Show.  BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – APRIL 11: Jackson Holliday #7 of the Baltimore Orioles autographs a baseball before playing against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on April 11, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts. UCLA’s ‘Friday Night Lights’ showcases DeShaun Foster’s vision of competitive fun

For a few hours, UCLA football was once again a player in a sports landscape that had practically abandoned it. Fans jammed one side of a parking lot overlooking the Bruins’ practice field. Parents and donors packed the terrace of the Wasserman Football Center. Hundreds of high school recruits and former players milled about on the field, some bopping to the pulsating music. For a few hours, UCLA football embraced a community. Kids got their faces painted. Students played cornhole. Everyone was riveted by a fire twirler. For a few hours, UCLA football was back to being fun. “Blake Glessner, for the Rose Bowl!” onetime Bruins linebacker-turned-play-by-play announcer Shea Pitts bellowed through a microphone as the team’s kicker lined up for a field-goal attempt accompanied by imaginary stakes. Watching the kick sail through the uprights, Pitts added, “Perfect snap! Perfect kick!” UCLA’s “Friday Night Lights” event was part carnival, part football practice, completely lively. “I’m just excited that my vision actually turned out to be pretty good,” coach DeShaun Foster said afterward. “I was just missing the Ferris wheel.” Who knows whether UCLA football will

The House votes for possible TikTok ban in the US, but don’t expect the app to go away anytime soon

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House passed legislation Saturday that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away anytime soon. The decision by House Republicans to include TikTok as part of a larger foreign aid package, a priority for President Joe Biden with broad congressional support for Ukraine and Israel, fast-tracked the ban after an earlier version had stalled in the Senate. A standalone bill with a shorter, six-month selling deadline passed the House in March by an overwhelming bipartisan vote as both Democrats and Republicans voiced national security concerns about the app’s owner, the Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd. The modified measure, passed by a 360-58 vote, now goes to the Senate after negotiations that lengthened the timeline for the company to sell to nine months, with a possible additional three months if a sale is in progress. Legal challenges could extend that timeline even further. The company has indicated that it would likely go to court to try and block the law
